    April Fools’ Day Is Coming…

April Fools’ day: love it or loathe it, it can be hard to avoid. If you’re one of those people who doesn’t see the funny side of practical jokes, it can be nerve-wracking waiting for midday to come around. And with the newspapers joining in, it can be hard to tell what is a fact and what is a set-up.

Some things you definitely want to take seriously. Like picking a contractor to install your pattern imprinted concrete driveway. And you can rest assured; at Complete Driveway Designs we take our business very seriously. Want proof? Check out our case studies for some examples of our completed installations. No practical joking going on there, just some really high-quality pattern imprinted concrete driveways and patios.

Have you got any April Fools’ jokes planned this year? Have you had a particularly hilarious April Fools experience that you’d like to share? Let us know in the comments.

We’ve been reading up on April Fools’ day, and have dug up a few interesting facts about it. Did you know, for example, that the tradition dates back to Chaucer’s time? So it’s at least 600 years old. And April Fool jokes can have wide reaching consequences: in 2003, an internet April Fools claiming that Bill Gates (the Microsoft billionaire) had died put a 1.5% dent in the South Korean stock market.

    Planning an early summer holiday?

Are you planning a summer holiday this year? A lot of people seem to be taking early summer holidays this year. Obviously, this can present problems for people with children who are still at school, as taking your offspring out of education for a week or two is increasingly frowned upon. But the traditional six week summer holiday period is busy-busy-busy. This makes it harder to find accommodation, and, of course, means that everything costs a little bit more; you’re paying because it’s peak time. So it’s understandable that people are looking to travel at other times.

At Complete Driveway Designs, we definitely do get busier during the summer. The good weather makes pattern imprinted concrete driveway installations a lot easier. That’s not to say we can’t also install pattern imprinted concrete driveways at other times of year; we can and we will if it’s possible, although obviously we don’t want to be laying concrete in pouring rain!

One of the benefits of taking your holiday before the summer rush is that it means that during July and August you’ll be at home; you can enjoy the best of the UK summer and get more household tasks done in the sunshine. Like, for example, bringing in some contractors to install a new pattern imprinted concrete driveway…

    Concrete Eating Machine

We’re in the business of installing pattern imprinted concrete, not removing it. Although, of course, when we are installing a pattern imprinted concrete driveway, there’s usually some spoil that needs to be taken away. This is because we excavate your original driveway, or the area which you want your driveway to cover. We fill the area from which we’ve removed spoil with sub base, and then we pour out that lovely concrete.

The spoil is removed and then disposed of. Not, we have to say, quite as dramatically as this concrete is disposed of. We found these videos on the internet and thought they were worth sharing. Anyone who’s a fan of big pieces of plant and equipment should have a quick look through. It’s a pretty impressive shredder!

Take a look through all those videos and you’ll see all manner of stuff getting chewed up. Including bowling balls and lawnmowers. Madness! When we install a pattern imprinted concrete driveway we bring a fair amount of equipment with us if it’s going to be necessary, up to and including our own grab truck. If you look through our case studies you’ll probably see the grab truck in the background of some of them. We’ve yet to require the services of a huge industrial shredder though!

    Spring Cleaning!

It’s that time of year again! Time to break out all the cleaning stuff and really go for it. It’s spring, so it’s time for that annual deep clean. And while you’re doing the interior of your home, don’t forget the little tasks that need taking care of on the outside.

For many people, winter is the time when the exterior of their property gets the least aesthetic attention. During winter we’re worried about practical issues when it comes to the outside of our property. Removing ice from footpaths, dealing with broken gutters; that kind of thing. But when it’s spring it’s time to start cleaning up.

There’ll be the first lawn-mowing of the year of course. And, now all that snow and ice has cleared off, it’s time to clean your driveway. Keeping your driveway clean doesn’t need to be an arduous job; clean any residue off your driveway with a stiff-bristled brush and your garden hose if it’s necessary. You can also use pressure washers, but if you do, please remember to keep your washer on a wide-fan setting, as pencil settings can remove sealant from the surface of your pattern imprinted concrete driveway.

While you’re cleaning your pattern imprinted concrete driveway, you should pass an eye over it, looking for cracks in places other than where your crack control joints have been cut.

    Garden Pests

Garden pests. Don’t you just hate them? If it’s not your neighbour’s cat it’s minibeasts like viburnum beetles damaging your plants. Sometimes gardens are a lot more work than you’d expect them to be; there’s always something that needs to be sorted out.

Sometimes it’s worth looking at additions to you garden that might simplify your garden tasks. By replacing some of your lawn with pattern imprinted concrete, for example, you’ll have an impact on the amount of lawn care you need to perform. Pattern imprinted concrete needs to be resealed every two years or so; that’s significantly less work than a lawn requires.

And, of course, if you want a pattern imprinted concrete driveway or patio installed, you’ll want to get some contractors in to deal with it: it’s less effort for you, and more peace of mind as well. It’s the equivalent of having professional gardeners come in to treat your lawn… with a product that lasts for years.

When we install a pattern imprinted concrete driveway, we can also lay new turf, erect decking, and install fences and gates; a complete property make-over, to be honest. And, in the unlikely event that there’s a part of your project that requires something we can’t provide, we’ll know someone who is up to the job.
