The winter can be a depressing time of year, not least because your fantastic looking pattern imprinted concrete driveway is likely to be covered in a layer of crisp white snow. Initially this looks beautiful and helps to draw in the christmas spirit, but it very quickly turns into dirty icy mush, which looks rather ugly and creates a slipping hazard for you, your kids, your car, and anything else tangible that you care about and is likely to enter the general area.
Recognising this problem, we had a look around for some solutions, and found something that might interest you, which appears to come straight out of a Wallace and Gromit film! Dubbed the I-Shovel, this robotic creation is completely autonomous – it is solar powered, so can sit and charge itself on brighter days, and then get to work clearing your drive when the snow falls. Left out in your driveway, when it detects an inch of fallen snow it springs into action, methodically clearing the area with its 3-foot wide shovel. It can clear an area of 4000 square feet on a single charge.
Of course, there isn’t much sun about in times of snow, but it’s a cool idea all the same!
