    Chelsea Flower Show 2013

    The Homebase garden

The Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show 2013 starts tomorrow, which marks the 100th anniversary of the event. It lasts for 4 days, between 21st and 25th of May, and promises to be the best ever to celebrate its centenary.

One of the main attractions this year is an installation called ‘The Rush Of Nature’, which is a collaboration with renowned British artist Marc Quinn. This is the first time in the show’s history that the RHS has worked with an artist on an exhibit. The installation is a closely guarded secret, and will be kept under wraps until tomorrows opening. It will then be auctioned off by Sotheby’s in aid of the RHS Chelsea Centenary Appeal, with the funds used to create an apprentice scheme.

Of course the event wouldn’t be the same without the traditional show gardens, which this year include ‘Windows Through Time’, a celebration of 100 years of Chelsea garden design, and ‘After The Fire’, a garden based on regeneration after forest fires. The Great Pavillion will display a mixture of exciting new plants and flowers, alongside favourites from 1913. As always there will be lots of awards given out, including Best Garden, Best Product and the big special award for Plant of the Centenary.

The Cost Of Pattern Imprinted Concrete

Installing a new pattern imprinted concrete driveway is a big decision, so it is important to know what kind of costs are involved. Here is a basic guide to show you how we cost our driveways. More details of this are here on the website.

Firstly, the main cost relates to the size of the driveway and other areas that will be concreted. The bigger the area that will be filled with concrete the higher cost will be. Next you must take into account the type of finish that you want. Basically the better the finish you get will mean the more expensive the initial installation will be, but the longer it will last before it needs any maintenance. Lastly you will have to add up any extras that you might want. You can choose from imprinted motifs, decorative edges, sunken manholes, acid stained borders and a whole heap of others, all of which will be discussed when designing your installation. Obviously the more features you add the higher the cost.

We also provide work other than concreting, whether it’s new fencing, extra or improved drainage, walls or decking, it’s all detailed here on the website. If you would like a free no-obligation quote please get in touch here.

    The finished driveway

    The finished driveway

This cobbled set driveway was prone to moss growth and flooding, and was not level or even. The customer wanted something that was low maintenance, free of trip hazards and that could relieve water.

The blocks were primarily removed and the perimeter was shuttered allowing us to gage our levels and grade off. New aco drainage systems were fitted across the driveway and new pipework was laid and tapped into the aco system to alleviate any water. An old manhole hole was removed and was replaced by a recess manhole cover allowing us to continue the pattern through the drive and over the manhole, and a new step was formed at the entrance of the side gate.

The use of Old English Cobble and the dove grey colour on the drive fitted perfectly in with the old-fashioned cottages and the country surroundings. The gates of the property were removed, trimmed to size and then refitted, and the base of the old house was rendered and made good.
